We often get questions from prospective clients about our services and how to best prepare for a photo session. Below, we've outlined some of my most frequently asked questions for your clarity and ease of mind. If you don’t find the answer you’re looking for, please feel free to contact us.
Newborn
Why should I book a professional photographer for newborn photos?
When is the best time to take newborn photos?
The best time to capture newborn photos is within the first 8 to 14 days of a baby’s life. Why? Because in the first two weeks of life, babies tend to assume the position that they were in when in the womb. They like to stay curled up, which allows us to get them into sweet curled-up poses, that everyone wants and loves. They also easily go to sleep, and stay in deeper sleep, which is what we want and need for a successful newborn session. We can pose them safely and comfortably when they are asleep without waking them up.
We often hear from second-time parents that they regret not getting newborn photos of their firstborn. The newborn stage moves so fast – so we recommend planning for your newborn photo session well before your due date (the best time is around 20 weeks).
When should I book my professional photographer?
What should I bring to my newborn photoshoot?
Plan on bringing nursing gear and/or bottles, as well as diapers and a few receiving blankets. Our photography studio provides all props, accessories, backdrops and more will be supplied by our studio for your session. We want this to be a worry-free experience for you, and we made sure to think it through on your behalf. Your only task is to pre-book your session and meet us at the studio on the day of your shoot.
Our session schedules book up months in advance. That, combined with the time-sensitive nature of newborn photography, means that we highly recommend pre-booking your baby’s session well in advance of your expected due date.
Can we include baby’s brother and sister in the photo shoot?
Where are you located? Do you do home photoshoots?
Our studio is located in Vaughan, Ontario. We do not arrange photoshoots outside of our studio as it is equipped with all of the necessary props, accessories, backdrops and more.
To ensure we can capture the best images possible and make the experience as smooth as possible for everyone involved, we divide the session schedule into two segments. For the first part of the session, we focus on capturing those beautiful newborn moments with just the baby. This way, we can take our time, be flexible with feeding and diaper changes, and create a calm and comfortable environment for your little one. For the second part of the session, we will schedule a time that works best for the older siblings to join in.
Are photos included in my session fee?
What’s the long-term benefit of investing in newborn photography?
Although getting pictures done so soon after your baby’s birth may be the farthest thing from your mind, photos truly do appreciate with time. Our job is to not only capture those moments but to make them so timeless that when you pass by that image many years later, it will still remind you of just how precious and small your baby was. You would never miss having a professional photographer at your wedding, so why miss on such a precious milestone of having your baby?
Your session fee covers the photoshoot itself, the use of the studio and all props, accessories and more. Pricing will vary on your final package as edited photos are added once you have determined what you wish to order. We pride ourselves in our state-of-the-art beautiful products such as photo albums, heirloom canvas prints, gallery wraps and more. Following your session, I can visit with you at your home, go through all the images, and help you select what images would look best, and where they can be displayed in your home.
Why choose Lil’ One Photography?
I want awake, open-eyed photos of my newborn baby, is that possible?
My clients think of me as a baby whisperer that creates and preserves memories to last a lifetime as well as custom wall art decorator for your home. I am happy I can be of service to my amazing clients and be of assistance with such indispensable engagements.
We don’t tend usually start your session until your baby is sleepy. Even though it has been proven over and over again that studio lights don’t hurt baby’s eyes, we prefer not to flash babies when their eyes are open. Our lighting system is always set on the most minimalistic setting when we photograph newborns, and we use double diffusers, which provides us with the most natural soft light but at the same time, minimally reaches the baby. Also, when baby is awake it is impossible for us to pose baby in all the sweet poses that we do therefore we ensure baby is settled and sleepy before starting the session.
